Biography
Matt Mullenweg is an American media entrepreneur, investor, and web developer who came to prominence as the co-founder of WordPress, a free and open source web publishing software. He is also the founder of Automattic, the force behind Jetpack and Woocommerce.
Muellenweg grew up in Houston, United States alongside his elder sister, Charleen Mullenweg. His father was a computer programmer and his mother a home-maker.
He attended Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and proceeded to University of Houston where he majored in philosophy and political science but dropped out after two years.
He started up as a consultant in Hosuton before he moved to San Francisco where he worked at CNET Networks. He left CNET Networks in 2005 and established his own company called Automatic, which brought about other products like WordPress.com, Jetpack, Woocommerce, and Longreads.
Mullenweg founded wordpress at the age of 19 when he realised his passion for Web development. He also assisted in launching Ping-O-Matic, to enable notification of search engines for blog updates.
Mullenweg has contributed immensely to several charitable organizations and has continued to give press releases and podcasts while sharing his own personal stories.
