Samara Joy is an American singer who is well known for her impact in the jazz music genre. Joy has been said to be one of the most promising voices of her generation for her amazing vocals
Samara who was born in New York, grew up in a music environment. Her grandparents, Elder Goldwire and Ruth McLendon, were founders of the gospel group The Savettes. Her father, Antonio McLendon, also toured as a bassist with gospel legend Andraé Crouch. Joy had passion for music at a very tender age. She started singing in church choir before discovering jazz in high school.
Samara went to SUNY Purchase College Jazz Studies Program, and was mentored by trumpeter Jon Faddis. She mastered hwr skills and eventually began to capture hearts when performing at local venues.
She had a breakthrough after emerging winner at the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition in 2019.
She released her self-titled first album Samara Joy, in 2021. The album comprises of amazing songs like “Stardust” and “If You Never Fall in Love with Me”.
She came into the limelight with the release of the album titled “Linger Awhile”, in 2022. The album show ased her versatility with songs like “Guess Who I Saw Today,” and “Can’t Get Out of This Mood”. It also opened doors to several opportunities where she won two Grammy Awards in 2023 for Best New Artist and Best Jazz Vocal Album.
Samara released more projects in 2023 which include; “Linger Awhile album” (Deluxe Edition) and an extended play titled “A Joyful Holiday”. She already established herself as one of the leading voices in the music scene coupled with appearances at various festivals.
