Biography
Vance Joy is an Australian singer, and songwriter well known for his hit song “Riptide” and his debut album “Dream Your Life Away”. Vance who has a background in folk and indie pop, has earned international recognition for his songwriting, and vocals.
Vance Joy was born in Melbourne, Victoria, in Australia. He attended St. Kevin’s College and later studied at Monash University, where he earned degrees in both Arts and Laws. He played Australian rules football with the Coburg Football Club in the Victorian Football League, before he devoted himself to music.
He signed a five-album deal with Atlantic Records in 2013 and released his first extended play titled “God Loves You When You’re Dancing”. The EP included the song “Riptide,” which quickly became a huge success in Australia, ultimately being voted number one in Triple J’s Hottest 100 that year. The song established him as an international music star and also became one of his most recognizable song.
He came through in 2014 with his first studio album titled “Dream Your Life Away”. The album introduced his acoustic- folk-pop, ukulele and guitar-driven style to the audience. Some of the fan favorite songs on the album are “Mess Is Mine” and “Georgia”.
Vance Joy released his second album in 2018 titled “Nation of Two”. He released his third album in June 2022, titled “In Our Own Sweet Time”, which had been written during pandemic lockdowns. It was preceded by singles such as “Missing Piece,” “Don’t Fade,” “Clarity,” and “Every Side of You”.
Joy is also known for his live performances, compelling music videos, and live renditions, outside his studio albums. His songs have been featured in television shows and films, and has reached audiences beyond regular radio listeners.
Vance Joy got engaged to his Spanish girlfriend Selena Us in. November 2022, and eventually hot married in June 2023. They welcomed their first child, a daughter named Gigi, in early 2024.
