Biography
Fermin Lopez is a Spanish professional footballer known for his goal scoring instincts. He is an attacking midfielder admired for his Long range shots, good movement off the ball, and high work rate.
He began his career in his hometown with the El Campillo youth academy. He joined Recreativo youth setup and after one season, he moved to Real Betis before joining the Barcelona academy.
He was loaned out to Linares in 2022 to gain more experience and also to have more playing time. He was able to develop himself at the club where he became the top scorer with 12 goals and 4 assists.
Lopez returned to Barca ahead of the 2023-24 season where he became part of the squad for the US pre-season tour. He was chosen by the coach Xavi hernandez to play in a match against Real Madrid. He perfomed more than expectation with a goal in a 3-0 win in the Clasico in Dallas. He was registered as part of the first team under Xavi in 2024, where he had a total of 11 goals for the season.
However, it’s no coincidence that Fermin was chosen as part of the first team under the new Barcelona coach Hansi Flick for the 2024-25 season where he rotate the attacking midfield position with Dani Olmo and sometimes, Gavi. He won the domestic treble with the Barcelona team after showing that he is a force to reckon with with his explosive shots, contributing goals and assists.
Again, his efforts on the field has been acknowledged by several top European clubs including Chelsea who were interested in his service. He turned them down for a better offer as he extended his contract with Barcelona until 2029.
Fermin Lopez scored his first hat trick in a 6-1 victory against Olympiacos in the Champions league, on October 21, 2025.
He represented Spain at the under-21 and under-23 level, where he won the Olympic gold medal at the men’s foot all event. He made his debut for the national team in a 5-0 friendly win against Andorra. He was also part of the squad for the UEFA Euro 2024 which they went on to win.
