Biography
Florian Wirtz is a German Footballer well known as an attacking midfielder and for his record breaking transfer to Liverpool. He is considered as one of Germany’s generational talent just like Jamal Musiala.
Wirtz was born in Pulheim, Germany into a family of 10 children. He has four brothers and five sisters with one of his sister named Juliane Wirtz being a professional footballer. Their father Hans-Joachim is also the chairman of Grün-Weib Brauweiler, the club Wirtz played for during his childhood.
Wirtz started out with Fc. Koln before he joined the youth setup of Bayer Leverkusen in 2020. He was called up to the club’s senior team in the same year, and played at the age of 17.
He was very important in the Leverkusen’s success for the 2023-24 season where they recorded an unbeaten run towards domestic double. He won the Bundesliga player of the Season with 18 goals in 49 appearances to his credit.

Wirtz played for Germany at the youth level from under-15 to under-21. He was called up to the senior team in March 2021 by coach Joachim Löw, just in time for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Iceland, Romania and North Macedonia. He played his first match for the national team in a 2-0 win against Liechtenstein, after coming on as a substitute for Joshua Kimmich. He scored his first goal for Germany in a 2-0 friendly win against France. Wirtz was part of the squad for the Euro 2024, where he scored the opening goal in a 5-1 win against Scotland. He took part in the UEFA Nations League in September 2024 and had helped his team reached the semi-finals before they were knocked out by Portugal.
Wortz is a playmaker who drives between tight spaces to find the right passes. He is noticeably good off the ball and often covering a lot of spaces on the pitch. He is usually composed under high pressure.
