Biography
Alex Iwobi is a Nigerian professional footballer and a midfielder known for his line breaking passes, and tactical awareness. He is a playmaker with relentless work rate and defensive contributions.
Iwobi was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and family lived in Turkey for a while before moving to England when he was just four years old. His father, Chuba Iwobi is a former amateur footballer who played as a midfielder for the likes of Vasco da Gama of Enugu before becoming a qualified lawyer, and his mother is the elder sister of Nigerian football legend Austin Jay Jay Okocha.
He began his career at Arsenal youth academy. He signed his first professional contract with Arsenal in October 2015, and made his debut in a 3-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesdsy in a the round of 16 of the league cup, on October 27, 2015. At Arsenal, he won the FA Cup in 2016-17 season and FA Community Shield in 2015 and 2017.
He joined Everton on a five-year contract for a reported fee of ÂŁ28 million, on August 8, 2019. He made his debut fifteen days after, in a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa, where he came on as a substitute for Gylfi Sigurosson.
He joined Fulham on September 2, 2023, and made his debut in a 1-0 victory against Luton Town on September 16. He scored his first goal for Fulham in a 2-1 victory over Norwich City in the third round of the EFL Cup on September 27. At Fulham, he played alongside his Nigerian team mates, Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze who arrived on loan from AC Milan in 2025.
He initially played for England at the international stage where he played at the under-16, under-17, and under-18 levels. He decided to represent Nigeria at the senior level and made his debut for the Super Eagles in a 2-0 friendly loss to Dr Congo, on October 8, 2015.
He scored his first international goal in a 1-0 victory against Zambia in Octoner 2017, which helped the Nigerian team to get a spot in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He has also played for Nigeria in lots of competitions including the 2021, 2023, and 2024 Aftica Cup of Nations.
Aside from football, Iwobi launched a music career with the stage name “17”, in 2024. He came through with his first single titled “Don’t Shoot” featuring Chuba Akpom in June 2024. He followed up with the release of his second single “What’s Luv?”, in October 2024, with features from the likes of SPKS, and MBrown.
Iwobi is also said to be in a relationship with Ellie Mae, a Manchester based Influencer who co-owns a digital marketing firm called ZOir.
