Biography
Serge David Gnabry is a German professional footballer known as a fast pace dribbler and clinical finisher with good link up plays. He is an inverted winger who has good movement off the ball. He is also known for his signature celebration which mimics stirring a pot.
Gnabry was born in Stuttgart, Germany to parents, Birgit Gnabry, and Jean-Hermann Gnabry. He developed passion for football at a young age, with influence from the German legend Oliver Bierhoff.
He began his career at the youth level, where he joined VfB Stuttgart’s academy before moving to England in 2006 to join Arsenal’s youth setup.
Gnabry came through professionally with Arsenal in September 2012, making his debut against Newcastle United. He spent several years within the club’s youth ranks and occasionally featured for the first team. He was loaned to West Bromwich Albion, in 2015, in other to gain more experience.
Gnabry returned to Germany to join Werder Bremen in 2016, where he played for a season before making the switch to Bayern Munich in 2017. His impressive form at Hoffenheim on loan during the 2017-18 season earned him a permanent move back to Bayern Munich. He made his debut for Bayern Munich in a 3-0 away victory against Stuttgart on September 1, 2018 and scored his first goal in a 1-1 draw with Freiburg on November 3, 2018.
Gnabry’s first season with Bayern Munich was a resounding success, as he won the Bundesliga title and was named the club’s Player of the Season for 2018-19.
He played for the German youth teams from under-16 to under-21 levels. He was part of the squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics where he helped his team secure silver medal after being the joint top scorer.
He made his debut and scored three goals for the Germany national team in 8-0 victory against San Marino at the 2018 World Cup qualifier. He was also part of the squad for the UEFA Euro 2020 and 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
He has been in a relationship with the Switzerland model, Sandra Jerze, since March 2020.
