Biography
Dominik Szoboszlai is a Hungarian professional footballer known for his exceptional ball striking ability. He is a Box to box midfielder with long distance shots, defense splitting passes, and also a threat from direct free-kicks.
Szoboszlai was born in Szekesfeherver, Hungary, to parents, Zsolt Szoboszlai, and Zsanett Szoboszlai. His father is a former professional footballer and his mother is a former handball player who later became a teacher.
He began his career at the youth level in with Fehervar FC in 2006, and went through the youth academy of Fonix Gold, MTK Budapest, and back to Fonix Gold, from 2007 to 2017.
He made his professional debut with the Austrian club FC Liefering, in 2017. He made his debut for the parent club Red Bull Salzburg in January 2018.
He joined RB Leipzig in January 2021 for a reported fee of €20 million, where he became one of the most expensive Hungarian footballer in history. He made his debut for RB Leipzig in a German Cup match against SV Sandhausen, on August 7, 2021, where he scored just within three minutes of entering the pitch.
Szoboszlai joined the English club Liverpool on a five-year contract, for a reported fee of £60 million, on July 2, 2023. He made his debut in a 1-1 away draw against Chelsea, on August 13. He scored his first goal for Liverpool in a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, on September 3.
He captained the Hungary U17 team at the 2017 UEFA European under-17 Championship in Croatia and was also the captain of the Hungary U19 team for the 2019 UEFA European under-19 Championship. He was called up to the senior team in June 2017, ahead of the friendly match against Russia and 2018 World Cup qualifier against Andorra. He made his debut for the senior team in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier against Slovakia.
Szoboszlai got engaged to his partner Borka Buzsik on October 16, 2024 and eventually got married on March 25, 2025, in Budapest. His wife, Borka Buzsik is a PR manager for the Hungarian company Toman Diet. They welcomed a baby girl in August 2025.
Szoboszlai was in a relationship with the former tennis player Fanni Gecsek, before they parted ways.
Aside from football, he had a partnership agreement with the Hungarian Telecommunications company Magyar Telekom, on March 13, 2024.
