Biography
Igor Thiago is a Brazilian professional footballer and a striker known for his intense pressing, strong aerial ability and good link up play. His positional play and clinical movement has made him a nightmare for opponents.
Thiago who was born in Gama, Brazil, lost his father at the age of 13 and was raised by his mother, Maria Diva. He supported his mother as he worked in construction as a bricklayer.
He started his football career at Gremio Ocidental where his brother also played. He had several trials at different teams and joined the under-17 side of Verê, at the age of sixteen. He eventually joined the youth academy of Cruzeiro in 2019.
He made his professional debut for Cruzeiro in a match against Boa Esports, on January 22, 2020. He had a total of 9 goals in 60 appearances during his time at the club.
He signed with the Bulgarian club Ludogorets Razgrad on March 2, 2022. He scored on his debut for the club in a match against Litex Lovech. He also scored a brace a week later, in a 3-2 away defeat to Dobrudzha Dobrich.
He joined the Belgian club Club Brugge on a four-year contract for a reported fee of €7.9 million, on June 12, 2023. He made his debut in a 3-0 victory against Aarhus in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers, on July 7, 2023. He also scored in his first two league games for Club Brugge. He won the Belgian Pro League in 2023-24 with Club Brugge.
He signed a five-year contract with the English club Brentford for a reported fee of £30 million, on February 14, 2024 and to take effect on July 1. He sustained an injury on his debut in a pre-season friendly. He eventually made his debut in a match against Everton on November 23. He scored his first goal for Brentford in a 3-1 away loss to Nottingham Forest, on August 17, 2025.
Thiago was called up for the Brazil U-23 team in January 2023 but refused to accept as he keep his international options open.
Igor Thiago is married with two children. He moved the family to England after joining Brentford.
